Restoration Choices, Bridge vs. Implant

Restoration Choices – Bridge vs. Implant

Loss of a tooth or several teeth always has significant consequences. It compromises your bite and causes misalignment in the surrounding teeth. A missing tooth also compromises the beauty of your smile. At Brodhagen Dental Care, we provide two different solutions to this problem – a dental bridge and dental implants.

About Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a replacement tooth that has two teeth-like anchoring caps on either side of it. If you need to replace one tooth, the dental bridge will have three in a row. The tooth on either side will sit on top of the natural tooth on either side of the missing tooth gap. Your dentist will create a custom-fitted bridge for your teeth to ensure it blends in with the surrounding natural teeth.

The procedure is quicker but the dentist will have to remove material from the two surrounding teeth to make room for the anchoring caps. This bridge also requires more maintenance with special floss.

About Dental Implants

With dental implants, you do not need to remove the natural dental material from the surrounding teeth. The dentist will place a titanium implant in your jawbone and place the replacement dental crown over it. This procedure takes more time but implants help preserve the bone structure and material, and are easier to maintain.
